Description

Dyer Yoko Hashimoto founded Atelier Seiran (Seiran Workshop) in 1970 in Tokushima, Japan, to revive the traditional Japanese indigo. Faced with its decline after World War II, due to chemical dyes, she developed "indigo wax dyeing", which yielded magnificent hues. In the following decades, with her students, she created high-quality artworks and textiles. Her two daughters, Hatsuko Ukigawa and Kiyoko Hashimoto, have now taken up the torch. They continue to promote indigo culture while developing new sales channels for the atelier's products.
