PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are thousands of man-made substances such as PFOA, PFOS, PFHxA, PFHxS, HFPO-DA, C9-C14 PFCAs, etc used to make fluoropolymer coatings and products resistant to water, dirt, oil, heat, stains and grease. Concerns over PFAS’s environmental and health impacts have heightened attention from the public, governments, and safety/environmental standards committees. Called “forever chemicals,” they persist highly in the environment and hazard humans and animals. In response, new global chemical regulations control certain PFAS in specific uses.
