Description
Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is a self-funded, nonprofit organization that is the world’s leading field-to-finish textile processing standard for organic fibers, incorporating ecological and social criteria, supported by independent certification for the entire textile supply chain. GOTS covers all post-harvest processing (spinning, knitting, weaving, dyeing and manufacturing) of clothing and home textiles made from certified organic fibers, and includes both environmental and social criteria. Key provisions include a ban on the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), highly hazardous chemicals (such as azo dyes and formaldehyde) and child labor, while requiring robust social compliance management systems and strict wastewater treatment practices. The label is applied internationally.
