Description
For over 5,000 years, alpacas have provided Peruvian artisans with their soft, warm wool, which is dyed using traditional vegetable methods. The Peruvian alpaca, known as the "Treasure of the Andes," is a key export product, with 1.5 million Peruvians involved in the alpaca textile industry. Peru is the world’s largest producer, housing 80% of the global alpaca population, about 4 million animals of the Suri and Huacaya breeds, primarily in Puno, Arequipa, and Cusco. Alpacas thrive at altitudes of 3,000 to 4,000 meters in a preserved environment, enduring extreme temperature fluctuations from -20 °C to +30 °C, which contributes to their wool's unique qualities—insulating, warm, and soft. Breeding practices prioritize environmental and animal welfare. Alpaca fiber comes in 22 natural colors, is lightweight, breathable, soft, hypoallergenic, and free of oil or lanolin, making it particularly durable and comfortable.
